A new work for the Wind Symphony by Timothy Broege!

The Golden Knights Music Parents Association commissioned world-class composer Timothy Broege to write a new work for Northern Valley-Old Tappan. This work is dedicated to the memory of Todd Alloro, NVOT alumnus.

The work, entitled El Jardin de Esperanza (The Garden of Hope), received its World Premiere at the Prism  Concert on Friday, March 23, 2001. Mr. Curt Ebersole, Director of Bands, worked with Mr. Broege to discuss the foundation of the work and plan its scope and direction. The piece took its name from the community garden of the same name in New York City which was bulldozed by the city in 2000. The work was set to the poetry of former NVOT teacher Woody Rudin. The work is actually set in two versions:

Both versions, plus the original poetry, were woven into the fabric of the 2001 Prism Concert.

An ad hoc committee, co-chaired by Mrs. Debbie Stevens and Mrs. Debbie Trainor, both former Music Parents Presidents, provided the fund raising necessary to get this commission off the ground. We are grateful to these parents, and many others, who made this commission a reality.
